  11. REGISTERING BLINDFOLD AND THE 7.0 PLUS UTILITIES
  12. ===============================================
  13. Blindfold is not free. Sites using this software in business MUST
  14. register it. Contact the author for site licensing information. If it is for
  15. personal use only, please send a few dollars. Or you can consider the
  16. following.

  18. 7.0 PLUS Utilities is a package of all (more than 25) System 7.0 utilities
  19. I have written. You can get the disk with all of them NOW (not wait until
  20. I decide to upload the next program) by sending $29.95 to me. This will
  21. register you for all the software, will get you a disk of the software, and
  22. an update to the PLUS Utilities when it rolls around. It’s a pretty good
  23. deal. You should register your software, anyway, so why not do it
  24. like this? And it’s a lot cheaper this way.

  26. See the documentation which should accompany this file for
  27. more information on the 7.0 PLUS Utilities. A registration form should
  28. also accompany this file. Please use it to register the software.

  30. USING BLINDFOLD
  31. ================
  32. •  If you use Blindfold, please please please send me a note. My addresses
  33.     (post and e-mail) are given below in “About the Author”. Also, read the
  34.     information in the above section on registration.

  36. What Does Blindfold Do?
  37. ----------------------
  38. •  Blindfold allows you to hide or show icons in the Finder. So you can
  39.     hide files you don’t want to see or don’t want seen. And they can be
  40.     easily shown again when you want them. It can also help you organize
  41.     your desktop by removing clutter from view.
  42.  
  43. Using Blindfold
  44. --------------
  45. •  Blindfold can be used in two ways:
  46.  
  47. •  You can double-click on the application icon to open the program, and
  48.     use the Open... menu item in the File menu to select files for
  49.     modification. You can also modify your preferences from this menu.
  50.     You could also drag sets of files, folders, or disks into the application,
  51.     “Drop Box-style”. Depending on the preferences you have set up (see the
  52.     next section), Blindfold will scan folders and disks provided, and will
  53.     modify ALL files and ALL of the directories provided, no matter what
  54.     their depth. The latter method requires Apple Events, and thus System
  55.     7.0 or higher. So if you don’t have at least System 7.0, you’ll have to
  56.     use the Open... menu item.
  57.  
  58. •  When in Manual mode (using the Open... menu item), the file open dialog
  59.     will appear with several extra buttons. The Visible check box is checked
  60.     if the currently selected file or folder is visible in the Finder. You can
  61.     check or uncheck this button as desired. The other two check box
  62.     determine what files to display. Remember that folders are always
  63.     display (regardless of their visibility). The last two extra buttons,
  64.     All visible and All invisible, allow you to make all files in the current
  65.     directory either visible or invisible. Blindfold does not go any deeper
  66.     than the current directory when in Manual mode, so the contents of
  67.     a folder made invisible in Manual mode are not made invisible also.
  68.  
  69. •  Double-clicking on files in Manual mode is the same as toggling the
  70.     Visible check box. Otherwise (double-clicking on folders or disks),
  71.     it performs the standard function.
  72.  
  73. •  You can’t change the visibility of disks.
  74.  
  75. •  If you make an alias invisible, the owner file will be hidden.
  76.  
  77. •  If you hold down the shift key when launching the program (or, if you
  78.     hold down the option key to show the Preferences dialog, right after
  79.     you hit OK), you can toggle the Blindfold of the selected files. All
  80.     preferences other than the Blindfold setting will be considered. No
  81.     matter what that setting, visible files and folders will be made
  82.     invisible, and invisible files or folders will be made visible.
  83.  
  84. •  To cancel processing, just type a command-period. Cancelling in the
  85.     middle of a file causes that file to be left unchanged. However, files
  86.     already processed will remain modified.
  87.  
  88. Preferences
  89. -----------
  90. •  The first time you try to modify a file using the program, the
  91.     preferences dialog will come up, just to make sure the correct
  92.     parameters have been set up. You can modify these if you wish. If
  93.     you don't want to see that window again, just say OK. You will have to
  94.     explicitly ask for for the Preferences window the next time you wish
  95.     to change anything. The preferences apply ONLY to Drop Box mode. They
  96.     are not consulted when in Manual mode.
  97.  
  98. •  To show the Preferences dialog in Drop Box mode, hold down the option
  99.     key while the program is launching.
  100.  
  101. •  The preferences are fairly self-explanatory. You can choose to show or
  102.     hide files and folders. By choosing to modify directories, you have
  103.     decided that folders themselves can be made visible or invisible. You
  104.     can modify files and folders inside those folders which you have dropped
  105.     in by checking the Modify contents box. For example, if you drop in a folder
  106.     containing three files and another folder, and have Modify contents on but
  107.     Modify directories off, and are turning the files invisible, you will still
  108.     be able to see the folders in the Finder (as long as you could see them
  109.     before), but the all contained files (including those inside the second
  110.     folder) will have disappeared.

  112. USING DROP BOXES
  113. =================
  114. Drop Boxes are applications which can take advantage of System 7’s Apple
  115. Events. To use them, just drag a file over the application icon just as you
  116. would drag a file over a folder to move it into that directory. The Drop
  117. Box is then opened and processing is done. The program then quits. You can
  118. also throw in whole directories and disks. You don’t have to throw in just
  119. one, either. Select a whole bunch of files, directories, or disks, or any
  120. combination of the three, and dump them in. The Drop Box will scan for
  121. files of the required type and modify them accordingly. All files in all
  122. directories within those dropped in will be modified.

  124. You can also open the program by double-clicking and modify files from
  125. inside the program, or you can open the program manually and then throw
  126. files in. The program will not quit this time.
  127.  
  128. At least, that is how Rob•Drop Boxes work.
